The 2015 New York Mets went 90-72, winning the National League East division by 7 games over the Washington Nationals. The Mets went 11-8 against the Nationals in head-to-head play, as well as 49-32 at home and 41-40 on the road. Going into the 2015 regular season, the Mets were projected to have a rebuilding season and miss the playoffs altogether, but as the season unfolded, the Mets proved their doubters wrong.

A Surprising Regular Season

The Cespedes Trade and an August Surge

Completing a trade with the Detroit Tigers on July 31, the Mets sent minor league pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa to Detroit in exchange for left fielder Yoenis Cespedes, who would play a big part in New York’s offensive surge in the month of August. In 57 games, Cespedes batted .287 with 17 home runs, 66 hits, 14 doubles, 4 triples and 4 stolen bases. The Mets went 20-8 in August, their first 20-win month since September 2000. Battling spinal stenosis for much of the year and missing games from April 14 to August 24, third baseman David Wright batted .289 with 44 hits and 7 doubles in 38 games. Reserve left fielder Michael Conforto batted .270 with 47 hits and 14 doubles in 56 games.
