Milwaukee Brewers 2026 Season: Champions at Last

The Brewers’ 2026 season ended a wait that stretched across 58 years and two leagues. Milwaukee won a franchise-record 103 games, claimed a fourth straight NL Central crown and swept the two-time defending champion Dodgers. Then the Brewers beat Tampa Bay in five games to capture the first World Series title in club history. A small-market team that had lost its ace in January finished as the last team standing.

Rebuilding Without an Ace

The winter began with a familiar sacrifice. For the third straight offseason, Milwaukee traded a premium pitcher. On January 22, the front office sent Freddy Peralta and swingman Tobias Myers to the Mets. In return, the Brewers landed infielder Jett Williams and right-hander Brandon Sproat, two of their top prospects according to MLB.com’s coverage of the deal.

The move stung a fanbase still bruised from October. The Dodgers had swept Milwaukee in the previous NLCS, and the Brewers had dropped seven straight playoff games to Los Angeles. Pat Murphy, a two-time reigning NL Manager of the Year, now had to win without his most reliable starter. Few outside Wisconsin expected the Brewers’ 2026 season to produce a juggernaut.

The early weeks did little to change that view. Milwaukee opened 16-14 through April and endured a six-game losing streak from April 7 to April 14.

A Record-Setting Summer

The Miz Becomes a Phenomenon

May changed everything. The Brewers tore through a 19-7 month and never truly looked back. At the center of the surge stood Jacob Misiorowski, a towering right-hander in his first full season.

What he did defied modern precedent. Misiorowski finished 16-5 and led the majors with a 1.80 ERA, 252 strikeouts and a .157 opponents’ batting average. TSN noted that only three other pitchers since 1950 had led the majors in all three categories. He threw 1,115 pitches at 100 mph or harder. The previous single-season high was 673, set by Jordan Hicks in 2018. On June 27, one fastball to Pete Crow-Armstrong registered 105.5 mph.

The rotation behind him held firm. Logan Henderson went 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA, and Aaron Ashby went 13-3 with a 3.12 ERA. Trevor Megill collected 30 saves, while DL Hall and Abner Uribe each posted ERAs under 2.00.

Youth Joins the Push

The lineup leaned on speed, contact and timely power. Jackson Chourio hit .291 with 25 homers, 75 RBIs and 23 steals. Brice Turang drove in 100 runs with 21 homers. Jake Bauers supplied a team-best 26 home runs, and William Contreras added 94 RBIs from behind the plate. As a team, Milwaukee stole 162 bases.

On June 16, the Brewers promoted shortstop Cooper Pratt, their No. 4 prospect. He debuted that night in a win over Cleveland and quickly claimed the position. His arrival gave the left side of the infield a long-term anchor.

The front office added depth on August 3 rather than swinging for a superstar. Milwaukee entered deadline day tied with the Dodgers for the best record in baseball and led the division by 6.5 games. The club acquired starter Dustin May and lefty JoJo Romero from St. Louis, plus reliever Antonio Senzatela from Colorado, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Tarik Skubal went to Los Angeles instead. That decision would matter in October.

Clinching History in September

The final month turned a great season into a historic one. On August 18, the Brewers crushed Seattle 22-0 to tie the franchise record for runs in a game. On September 11, a 20-0 rout of Cincinnati made Milwaukee the first team to clinch a postseason berth.

Four days later, the division followed. Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh 5-1 for its 94th win, and a Cubs loss that night sealed a fourth straight NL Central title. On September 24 in Philadelphia, the Brewers won their 100th game, the first 100-win season in franchise history.

They kept pressing. Milwaukee went 18-6 in September and finished 103-59, the best record in the majors. The Brewers scored 832 runs, allowed 618 and finished 14 games ahead of the Cubs. The Brewers’ 2026 season had already rewritten the record book. October would decide its meaning.

October’s Long-Awaited Breakthrough

Exorcising San Diego

The Division Series tested Milwaukee’s nerve immediately. Game 1 turned when a Ty France drive struck a roof panel instead of leaving the park, and the Brewers escaped 3-2. In Game 2, Chourio lined a walk-off single against Padres closer Mason Miller for a 4-3 win.

San Diego answered with a 4-3 victory at Petco Park. Game 4 then delivered the defining catch of the postseason. Milwaukee led 2-1 in the eighth when Manny Machado drove a 406-foot shot toward the wall. Garrett Mitchell raced back, fended off fans and pulled it down. ABC30 reported that no player had ever robbed a potential tying or go-ahead homer that late in a playoff game. Milwaukee won 3-1, snapping a 12-game postseason road losing streak.

Revenge Against the Dodgers

The NLCS offered the rematch Milwaukee craved. Game 1 at American Family Field hung on one swing and one single. Turang homered, Luis Lara singled home the go-ahead run against Skubal, and the bullpen held on for a 2-1 win.

Game 2 tipped late. Contreras tied it with a 436-foot homer in the seventh, then singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth of a 7-4 victory. In Los Angeles, Chourio drove Blake Snell’s first pitch of Game 3 into the seats. Bauers and Mitchell later hit back-to-back homers in a 6-2 win.

Game 4 brought one final scare. Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer off May staked the Dodgers to a 4-0 lead. Milwaukee clawed back to tie it by the fifth, and Mitchell’s solo shot in the sixth sealed a 6-4 win. The Brewers outhomered Los Angeles 7-1, and Bauers earned NLCS MVP honors. Milwaukee had its first National League pennant.

Four Wins From Forever

Seizing Control in Milwaukee

The World Series matched two low-payroll clubs for the first time since 1991. Misiorowski set the tone in Game 1 with a 103.5 mph first pitch, a Fall Classic velocity record. He allowed one run over five innings, and Megill closed a 3-2 win.

Game 2 was just as tight. Uribe earned the win and Ashby recorded the save in a 5-4 victory. The series then shifted to Tropicana Field, where the Rays turned to a familiar face. Peralta, dealt from the Mets to Tampa Bay at the deadline, had just won ALCS MVP. His old teammates hammered the Rays 10-1 behind Robert Gasser.

The Clincher at Tropicana Field

Three outs from a sweep in Game 4, Milwaukee let the lead slip away. Pratt’s solo homer gave the Brewers the lead in the 12th, but Tampa Bay rallied for a 4-3 win. The champagne stayed on ice for one more night.

Game 5 belonged to Misiorowski. He fired 5 2/3 scoreless innings, touching 103 mph twice before a calf cramp forced him out. Pratt drove in the first run, and Contreras doubled home another in the sixth. Megill allowed a ninth-inning run, then got Richie Palacios to ground out. Milwaukee won 4-1 and was finally champion.

Contreras won World Series MVP after hitting .381 and throwing out four runners. Chourio set a five-game Series record with 11 hits, and Pratt set a rookie record with six straight hits. Final scores and box details are preserved at Baseball Reference.

Legacy of the 2026 Brewers

The Brewers’ 2026 season will stand as the franchise’s defining achievement. The club was born as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and lost its only previous World Series in seven games to St. Louis in 1982. Forty-four years later, Milwaukee finished an 11-2 postseason run with a trophy.

The title validated an entire philosophy. Milwaukee traded away stars, trusted its farm system and still won more games than any team in baseball. Misiorowski emerged as a generational arm, Pratt as a cornerstone, and Contreras as an October leader. Murphy, 67, guided it all with steady conviction. For a city that had not celebrated a baseball champion since the 1957 Braves, the wait was finally over.
